Do I Need a Pageant Headshot?
Although in most competitions pageant headshots are not required, they are a great resource to help elevate you and boost your performance in competitions. I’m a huge believer of winning before you get there . Pageant headshots are a great way to help you stand out from the crowd, and have many uses including:
- Social media development
- Promotion on pageant websites
- Helping to find sponsorship opportunities
- Pageant applications
- Appearance books
- Practice for photoshoots
Pageant headshots are not always required however some international pageants may require them and will mark you individually to add to your total score.

Social Media
If you’re struggling for social content ideas, a high quality and professional headshot can be a great way to create a professional look for your feed. This will also show your dedication to the competition. Remember, judges are known to review social media beforehand, so an up-to-date Instagram with high-quality pageant friendly content is a great way to catch their eye.
Website Promotion
Pageant systems will typically promote their contestants on their websites and social channels before the competition, so a headshot is an easy way to stand out from the crowd.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Think of your headshot as your own personal business branding. The same way a company may use a logo to promote their business, a professional headshot will act the same for us pageant girls. A high-quality headshot may work in your favour when finding businesses to partner with.
Applications
Headshots are also handy to have on hand for pageant applications and can also to be used for appearance book front covers!
Gaining Confidence
Gaining experience and confidence in front of the camera is a useful skill to have when it comes to competing. By becoming confident in front of the camera, and learning your best angles and poses, you can shine at competitions when presented with a camera.
Taking Your Headshot
Contrary to popular belief, pageant headshots do not have to be expensive. By investing in a good quality camera, tripod, and ring light, you can easily take your own headshots at home. However, from my personal experience, I believe getting your headshots taken professionally is extremely beneficial for taking your photos to the next level.
My personal recommendation, and best in the industry, is Charlotte Clemie; a self-proclaimed pageant super fan, photographer and retoucher based in Leeds. With clients travelling as far as the USA to seize the opportunity of shooting with her, Charlotte knows exactly what the judges are looking for: from poses and lighting, to outfit choices and hair and makeup. Charlotte has attended several of our Crown Camps and has a knack for making our girls feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera.
